Councillor Nick Hartley (Chairman)
I have lived in Hannington for 11 years and before that in Shrivenham and Kempsford so know the area well. I left the RAF, after 30 years’ service and I am now working more locally so I am able to fully contribute to the Parish Council and put something back into the local community. After a full career as a public servant, I am now working in industry but I am still an RAF Reservist and I am keen to continue to offer my service as a member of the Parish Council. As a senior military officer, I had extensive experience of managing change and working in diverse teams to deliver results, and so I feel that my experience can be of benefit to the Parish Council as we face the challenges ahead. I have been impressed by the dedication, hard work and commitment of the Parish Council in developing the Neighbourhood Plan and all that has been achieved on our behalf over the last few years and I am delighted to have been elected as part of the team and will continue to offer my support going forward. I will ensure all voices in the Parish are heard and respected, irrespective of location or status, and that fairness, openness and transparency are guaranteed as we represent the diverse views, perspectives and priorities that a community like ours will always offer. I will ensure that the enduring interests of the Parish and the wider community are always at the forefront of our decisions and that everyone will have the opportunity to engage and contribute to the development and growth of our community as we move forward together. The village and the Parish is a wonderful place to live and the Parish Council, on our behalf, is responsible for making sure it stays that way, while at the same time being responsive to the changing needs and requirements as we move forward. I am delighted to play my part in that journey and will dedicate my time, efforts and experience on your behalf.
Councillor Guillaume Molhant-Proost
I have lived in Hannington with my family over the last 20 years. After restoring our home, we became too aware of the danger for our Parish to lose its unique and authentic character in the face of uncontrolled development. I started being involved with the local community life by attending the meetings held at the Village Hall to update the residents on progress achieved towards completing our first Neighbourhood Plan. This process was lengthy and at times challenging due to the diverging views within the local community on what the Neighbourhood Plan was meant to achieve. In the end, a compromise was achieved which led to its adoption by the Parish Council. As a member of the Hannington Parish Council, I am especially focused on protecting our Parish unique appeal not only for its residents but visitors enjoying its beautiful surroundings where they can practice a variety of recreational activities such as hiking, biking and horse riding. We cannot become complacent about our fortunate position as Parish Residents and need to remain vigilant to pre-empt any future attempt to change our cherished living and natural environment for our community and future generations. You can count on me to keep monitoring the legal environment including more importantly the upcoming 2036 Swindon Local Plan that is the principal planning policy document for the Borough which will supersede the existing 2026 version. We are at the beginning of this lengthy process which will start with the examination by The Secretary of State soon.
Councillor Grant Barker
Manor Farm – I was born in Swindon Hospital in 1936. I have lived in Hannington for the last 20 years and before that at Lushill Farm, between Hannington and Castle Eaton. My family runs the Farm between Hannington and Blunsdon. After leaving school I served in the British Army for 10 years. I now divide my time between the Farm and working in Corporate finance, helping small private and AIM listed companies.
