Bonfire Nuisance

Whilst there are no laws specifically preventing bonfires, having one during a period of very hot weather, when many people have their windows open and are trying to keep their homes cool, can cause considerable nuisance to neighbours and others across the village.
Although there has been some rain today, dry conditions and high temperatures (and winds) increase the risk of fires spreading and causing damage to property, gardens, and surrounding areas.
Bonfire smoke and fumes have a significant impact on people with asthma, respiratory conditions, or other breathing difficulties, many of whom may already be affected by the prolonged hot weather.
Please consider using alternative methods to dispose of garden or household waste that do not affect those living nearby, such as using a licensed waste carrier or the Swindon Borough Council green bin collection service.
